Spiritual healer charged with fraud after promising R4 million payout

ALEXANDRA - A 31 year old Kempton Park man sought redress from the court in an alleged fraud case of R200 000 against a spiritual healer.

A 31-year-old Kempton Park man sought redress from the court in an alleged fraud case amounting to R200 000 against a spiritual healer.

The healer, a 32-year-old woman practising in Bramley, was granted bail of R30 000 by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court pending a further hearing on 26 February.

The court heard that the man had approached the healer seeking help with his financial problems. It was alleged that on 31 January and after reading about the healer’s spiritual powers in a pamphlet, the man met the healer at her practice, and she claimed to have diagnosed his problems and advised him to return the following day.

The next day, she was alleged to have showed him a bag which she claimed contained R4 million, said to be from his ancestors, to solve his problem. The healer is alleged to have then asked for a cash payment of R150 000 for her services.

The man said he got a bank loan that week which he used to pay her in instalments of R25 000 and R175 000, which was in excess of her fee by R50 000.

When he asked the healer for the R4 million from his ancestors, she was alleged to have asked him to bring four cows or an equivalent of R10 000 per beast as additional payment. The man claimed to have refused and asked her to return his money but she declined.

Whenever he called her for the refund, she was said to have pestered him for the extra payment. Later on, she wouldn’t answer his calls leading him to press a fraud charge against her.
