Alex robbers flee when victim shouts

ALEXANDRA – Robbery victim saves himself by shouting and hitting one with a bottle.

A victim saved himself from possible injury or even death by shouting at armed robbers, who fled from his house.

The incident occurred at 2am on 2 May in Tsutsumani. Police spokesperson Captain Allie Kodisang said the victim was woken by two suspects, one with a balaclava covering his head and the other with a gun who ordered him to remain in bed. They told him to hand them his wallet and cellphone. The victim asked to get up in order to give them what they wanted and he gave them the wallet from which they took R1500 in cash.

When they tried to pull a plasma TV off the wall, the victim picked up a beer bottle and hit one of them on the head. The armed suspect retaliated by firing two shots which missed the victim and instead hit a wardrobe.

The victim shouted to attract neighbours, forcing the suspects to flee with the money and cellphone but without the television.
