Tyres and debris have reportedly been placed on the roads between London Road and Marlboro Drive. Motorists in the area are advised to exercise caution, and use alternative routes.

“There is protest action in Lombardy East, and Alexandra area, with London Road being barricaded off to traffic between Alex Mall and the N3,” says JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla. “We have also received reports of rocks and burning tyres being hurled near the N3 North and London Road exit.”

Fihla said JMPD’s understanding was that residents are protesting over electricity, and an illegal structure in the area.

“They have indicated that they want City Power officials to address their issues”

Fihla added that law enforcement officials are present on the ground, cautioning motorists to expect delays in the area, encouraging the use of Marlboro Drive and Pretoria Main Road as alternatives.
