Little chefs from ECD centres in Alexandra gathered to display their culinary prowess in a fun and educational event held at Siga Culinary.

The Alexandra Early Childhood Development Network, in partnership with Lehae La Alex and Siga Culinary, gave young aspiring chefs an unforgettable culinary adventure.
Children from various day care centres in Alexandra came together in miniature chefs’ outfits and hats, and showcased their culinary skills at Siga Culinary on May 7.

The event featured engaging contests that tested children’s imaginations. In one challenge, children were asked to create smiley faces on their plates using sauces and food items provided. Each pair of children, representing different daycare centres, eagerly crafted their edible smiley faces, and judges then scored their creations based on creativity and presentation.

Educators emphasised that the event was a valuable learning experience. Florentinah Luruli, a Sunothando Day Care Centre educator, said, “Every time we teach kids about career day, they must have experience with their chosen career.”

Another educator, Patricia Mohlamme noted that even if some children were not able to pursue higher education, culinary skills could open doors for entrepreneurship. “They can always teach themselves how to cook and start their own business,” she said.
