East Bank girls set for a triumphant return
At Altrec Sports Centre, a group of passionate young cricketers is training harder than ever, determined to make a mark in the upcoming matches.
At Altrec Sports Complex, a spirited group of young cricketers is honing their skills with energy and determination. Even though the East Bank High School girls’ cricket team has not played a game since last year, their love for the sport is as strong as ever as they prepare to make a triumphant return to competition.

Coach Bonginkosi Mabizela said while they were currently not playing any games, he was focusing on developing the players’ skills and boosting their confidence in training sessions. “Our current plan is to make them better than they already are, to develop their skills. And pass the information on to them so that they can make it to another level and play for professional clubs in the future. Maybe they might get scholarships.”

Reflecting on past successes, Mabizela recalled how his team delivered remarkable performances, emerging victorious in their last two matches. “Our last games were last year. We played against a few schools, Houghton High School and Curro.” Though there are no games on the team’s schedule at the moment, training is in full swing as the coach looks forward to tougher and more competitive challenges. “I am hoping for competition and to get more talent, so I can develop these kids. I want to see them get better. That is what I am hoping for. I want them to get opportunities and make a name for themselves.”
