In their recent gathering, at Motswedi Skills Centre on June 10, job seekers from across Alexandra were equipped with the knowledge to make their job search easier and more effective. A representative of Bongani Rainmaker, Doli Mbambo, delivered a masterclass on the importance of a strong CV, emphasising the elements of crafting a compelling one to improve employment prospects.

“If you are looking for a job in Limpopo, put a Limpopo address on your CV, because ,when we search for employees, we prioritise local candidates,” Mbambo advised. “Do not submit a CV for a job in a different province unless you use your family’s residential address in that province.”
She also urged job seekers to ensure they provide complete and accurate personal details, including full phone numbers and names. “Sometimes your cell number is missing one digit, and I cannot guess what it is because I have five thousand CVs,” she explained. Additionally, she cautioned attendees to be mindful of their digital footprint, to avoid posting inappropriate content that could create a negative impression on potential employers.

Senior human resources professional at Altron Tebogo Mohlampe emphasised the significance of making a good first impression. She advised job seekers to arrive at interviews an hour early, to familiarise themselves with the environment. “Also, rehearse. A job post includes competencies – for instance, they might say they are looking for a problem solver, or someone with attention to detail. Go through those competencies.”

She further encouraged candidates to research interview questions relevant to the required competencies, and to seek help from family members to practice. “If there’s a family member who can assist you with interviews, do it. I am also available to help when you have interviews,” she added. She stressed that candidates should demonstrate their ability to perform the job through the way they answer questions, and provide relevant examples.

Job seekers left Motswedi Skills Centre empowered with knowledge and ready to seize job opportunities.
