Mogorosi Foundation continues its mission of care at Joseph Gerald Old Age Home

Continuing to bring hope to the elderly at Joseph Gerald Old Age Home, the Mogorosi Foundation provided essential food supplies to sustain them for months.

On May 28, a few months after giving the elderly people at Joseph Gerald Old Age Home the best festive season of their lives, the Mogorosi Foundation revisited the home. This time, the foundation donated nutritious food to ensure residents have sustenance for the next three months.

Chairperson of the Joseph Gerald Foundation Philip Dhlamini said the Mogorosi Foundation’s support helps bridge the gap left by limited government funding. “Our home depends mainly on social grants from the department of welfare. Their funding is not enough to cover all the costs. So, having partnered with the Mogorosi Foundation, our lives are getting better. They bring groceries for old people which is very much appreciated.”

Since 2022, the two foundations have been bound together by their commitment to enhance the standard of living of elderly people in Alexandra. The Mogorosi Foundation quarterly initiative is not just a kind gesture; it’s a promise of provision, especially amid rising food prices, and deepening poverty. Dhlamini explained that the Mogorosi Foundation’s efforts do not go unnoticed. “[The elderly] feel great. I think last year, in winter, the foundation brought all the winter necessities: scarves, winter blankets, and all those things that are needed in winter. They do appreciate it,” he noted.

Lebogang Mogorosi said their quarterly initiative serves to make the elderly happy, ensuring that they have something to eat. “Today, we have honoured one of our promises. We wish to bring joy, by saying we have not abandoned you. We know that we have our grandparents. As long as the Mogorosi Foundation, or the Gauteng North Central Funeral Parlour, has the means, we will keep on trying… We are going to keep on coming to give you what we have for you.”

Mogorosi said he hopes that the donated food will last, at least, three months, until their next scheduled visit. Furthermore, he promised the elders that the Mogorosi Foundation will be celebrating December 16 at the old age home.
