ARMSTA shows support for Gomora United FC
ARMSTA demonstrated their support for Gomora United FC, from their send-off in Sandton to post-match praise after the team’s 3–0 win.
Vice Secretary of the Alexandra, Randburg, Midrand, and Sandton Taxi Association (ARMSTA), Thabo Lebuso, is excited that Gomora United FC delivered a decisive 3–0 victory over African Warriors FC in the ABC Motsepe League national playoffs. The match took place at the Giant Stadium in Pretoria on July 2.
Lebuso expressed his joy, noting that their victory means a lot not only to the team but also to the Alexandra community. “We were very excited to see a team from Alexandra qualifying to participate in the national playoffs that will lead to the NFD [Motsepe Foundation Championship],” he said.

Just a day earlier, on July 1, ARMSTA held a send-off meeting for the team at their Wynberg offices in Sandton. Lebuso explained that the meeting was intended to boost the team’s morale. “It was important for the players to motivate them to fight on the field, to show that we are there outside the field,” he shared, adding that the message they intended to convey to Gomora ahead of their game was that they need to work hard to get great results.
“The information that I got is that they won 3-0, which is a good result,” he noted.
Speaking about the meeting, Lebuso said that it was important to support and root for a local team. He said that although Alexandra boasts a rich football heritage and is home to legends like Shoes Moshoeu, Brian Baloyi, and Lebogang Manyama, it hasn’t had a team represented in the Motsepe Foundation Championship.
He believes Gomora’s match against African Warriors and other upcoming fixtures might just pave the way for Gomora to break into the Motsepe Foundation Championship. “Our wish is to see them qualify for that in the next season. We wish to see them doing very well and going to PSL. I think it will be great for Alexandra people.”
Beyond players’ lives, He said the ripple effect of football success can uplift entire communities. “People can go to the stadium, do business, and sell. Some might get a job there. It changes lives, business-wise.”
Lebuso emphasised that if Gomora United FC continues with their great performance, Alexandra may soon have a team climbing the ranks to the Premier Soccer League, and that is partly why ARMSTA is determined to support it.
