Sassa unveils September grant payment dates

With millions depending on social grants, SASSA confirms the September 2025 payment dates.

The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has announced the payment schedule for social grants in September, ensuring that over 19 million beneficiaries across South Africa receive their financial lifeline on time. In addition to releasing the dates, the agency is encouraging recipients to update their personal and banking details to prevent any disruptions in accessing their funds.

Payments for September will begin with older persons grants on Tuesday, September 2, followed by disability grants on Wednesday, September 3. Children’s grants, including child support, foster child, and care dependency grants, along with other grants, will be disbursed on Thursday, September 4. These dates cover direct deposits into bank accounts and cash withdrawals at retail outlets such as Pick n Pay, Shoprite, Checkers, Boxer, or designated Sassa pay points. The social relief of distress (SRD) grant, currently set at R370, follows a separate schedule, typically paid between the 25th and 31st of each month. Sassa reminds beneficiaries that funds remain in their accounts until withdrawn, so there’s no need to rush to collect payments on the exact date.

To address rising living costs, the 2025 budget speech introduced adjustments to grant amounts. Older persons grants are now R2 315 for those aged 60 to 74 and R2 335 for those 75 and older. Disability grants and care dependency grants are each set at R2 315, while child support grants are R560 per child, foster child Grants are R1 250 per child, and grant-in-aid payments are R560. These increases, including a R130 boost for old age and disability grants and a R30 hike for child support, aim to provide critical relief to vulnerable households.

Beneficiaries can access their grants through direct bank deposits, the most secure and convenient option, or by withdrawing cash at participating retail stores using their Sassa card. Cash collections are also available at Sassa pay points or post offices, though queues may occur. To protect against scams, Sassa advises beneficiaries never to share their PINs or card details. Those experiencing issues can contact the toll-free helpline at 0800 60 10 11, or visit a local Sassa office for assistance.
