Alex elderly receive food parcels during Linda Twala’s birthday

On his 81st birthday, Alexandra’s 'father', Linda Twala, chose giving over receiving, blessing elderly residents with food parcels and festive cheer.

Even on his birthday, when for most people it is a time to draw back from philanthropic activities and enjoy being pampered with gifts, Linda Twala still made it his objective to give to Alexandra’s elderly residents.

The celebrated community leader, also known as the ‘father of Alexandra,’ marked his 81st birthday on December 9 at God Never Fails Ministries in Alexandra. The event was attended by scores of elderly people from the community.

True to his philanthropic nature, he used the occasion to spread festive cheer among Alexandra’s senior residents by donating food parcels to vulnerable elderly people, many of whom rely mostly on Sassa. Now, scores of elderly residents in Alexandra are set for a merry Christmas.

Tshepo Mukwebo, whose younger brother is married to Twala’s daughter, said he had experienced Twala’s kindness since birth, noting that Twala supported his mother, who was living with a disability. “Mr Twala was a social worker at the time, so he handled her paperwork on things such as grants and others.”

He also reflected on several initiatives he worked on together with Twala. “I worked with him on several community projects, including those that were meant to empower people with disabilities. He has empowered me on that part,” he shared.

“Words are never enough when it comes to this man. Genuinely experience his kindness and generosity, and you will feel that gratitude. He is loving, giving, and I am happy that there are still people here to wish him a happy birthday.”

Mukwebo added that it was commendable that Twala’s legacy, rooted in philanthropy, was also embodied in his children, who were engaged in a myriad of programmes that empowered the community. “It shows that they were raised by a father who loves. He is a loving man, and may God preserve him.”

Twala expressed gratitude to those who came to celebrate him and reaffirmed his love for them. “In your prayers, thank God for those who brought gifts, and I also thank you as well.”
