Alexandra cricketer Chris Mohale needs R37 000 to chase England dream

An Alexandra youngster’s cricket ambitions to play in England face a financial hurdle, with R37 000 needed to keep his dream alive.

Alexandra cricketer Chris Mohale’s path to achieving his dream of playing cricket in England is blocked not by lack of talent, but by the steep cost of pursuing it.

He has the opportunity to play amateur cricket abroad, but with R37 000 required to cover agent fees and travel, his future in the sport hangs in the balance.

When Mohale’s cricket statistics began to stand out, an agent reached out to him and offered a rare yet costly opportunity to go to England.

Two weeks after embarking on a campaign to raise funds, he has only managed to raise R650. He admits that as the month‑end deadline gets closer, the possibility of raising the required amount is getting slimmer, and so is the hope of flying to England.

The player is now appealing to the broader community, sponsors and well‑wishers to help raise the R37 000 needed.

Mohale, whose love for cricket began early in his primary school years at Skeen Primary School, currently plays for the Randburg Cricket Club and has also played at provincial level. He said the sport has even taken him to Scotland. While his talent has opened doors, the financial demands of advancing in cricket remain a heavy burden.

“I want to show my skills to the world. To show that even a township child can make it. It is to chase dreams and never give up in life,” Mohale shared, highlighting what drives him towards his goal.

But like many talented Alexandra youth who dared to dream beyond their circumstances, he is no stranger to disappointment and starting afresh. He talked about playing for the Limpopo Impala Cricket Club, but when he lost his contract, he was forced to return to Alexandra.

“Losing the contract undid the progress I had already made. I had to come back home. To start afresh,” he reflected.

Still, what remains clear is his unwavering faith in his dream. Despite setbacks, he is not ready to let it go.

Ward 105 Councillor Tefo Raphadu believes that with the right support, Mohale can continue his journey and realise his cricket dreams.

“We are imploring and asking anybody who can assist, because it needs money for him to go to England, in terms of a visa, and a flight to get to England,” Raphadu urged the community.

“So, let’s support Chris Mohale, a very talented young man, so that he can realise his dreams.”
