Alex Mall cash–in–transit robbery suspects remain at large
Police confirmed that suspects behind the cash–in–transit robbery at Alex Mall have not been arrested, with investigations still underway.
Police confirmed that the suspects behind the cash-in-transit robbery at Alex Mall on February 23 escaped with an undisclosed amount of money and remain at large.
Despite multiple videos circulating online suggesting that one suspect had been apprehended, police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said no arrests have been made and that investigations were ongoing. She added that a case of cash-in-transit robbery and attempted murder had been opened after a security guard was shot while collecting cash at the mall with his colleagues.

A source privy to the incident told Alex News that two suspects robbed one of three cash–in–transit guards who were collecting cash at stores inside the mall. At least two guards had entered the mall to collect cash, while one remained inside the armoured vehicle.

Initial reports suggested that two suspects pounced on one of the guards, took a bag containing an undisclosed amount of money, shot him in the arm, and fled toward nearby River Park houses. Police later clarified that the suspects, whose exact number has not yet been established, escaped using two Toyota Avanzas. While the source claimed the suspects took the injured guard’s firearm, police did not provide further details on this matter.

Sibeko said investigations were ongoing and urged anyone with information that may assist to contact the police. The incident left visible damage at the mall, with at least two window panes cracked and marked with bullet holes. Two other Avanzas, believed to be taxis, were also left riddled with bullet holes. Several cartridges were also found on the scene.
Law enforcement officials responded quickly, dispatching a helicopter that hovered over the robbery scene for some time. Police and security vehicles entered the River Park community, where law enforcement officials were seen searching houses for suspects.
