2 police officers shot at Alexandra Station; suspect killed
Members at the police station are receiving counselling.
Alexandra is reeling after two police officers were shot on November 14.
Two Alexandra Police Station officers are receiving medical attention after sustaining gunshot wounds to their right shoulders.
Deputy provincial commissioner Fred Kekana confirmed the incident occurred at 10:00.
“A man came into the community service centre and informed the police that he needed assessments… While an officer was writing a statement, the man grabbed the officer’s firearm.”
The man then started shooting randomly. A sergeant (46) and a constable (27) were shot.
Kekana added that the officers are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
Other officers returned fire on the man, who continued to shoot randomly. The suspect was fatally wounded and the firearm was recovered.
The commissioner confirmed that police officers at Alexandra Police Station were being attended to in terms of their mental and emotional health through social workers as a result of the incident.
