Skeen Primary School are the kings and Zenzeleni U13 girls are the queens of the Discovery Alex Primary Schools League for 2024
Skeen and Zenzeleni U13 teams have been crowned champions of the boys’ and girls’ sections of the Discovery Alex Primary Schools League beating MC Weiler Primary School and Iphutheng respectively.
Enterprising play by the boys’ team of Skeen Primary School propelled them to claim the title of kings of the Discovery Alex Primary Schools League for 2024.
The boys were crowned champions after beating their U13 counterparts from MC Weiler Primary School by a solitary goal off the boot of 11-year-old Amogelang Riba very early in the 20-minute first half of play.

The scrappy MC Weiler side, former two-time champions of the tournament, never posed any serious threat to the Skeen team, which was overall a balanced side that knocked the ball around and made a number of telling runs into the MC Weiler danger area in search of more goals.
Amogelang plies his trade in the U13 side of First Eleven FC, based in the Far East Bank area of Alexandra, and his teammate, Samukelile Hlongwa (12), a Grade 6 learner who plies his soccer trade with Alexandra Gunners’ U13 side, was a thorn in the flesh of the MC Weiler defenders with his nimble footed skills on the ball and the numerous telling runs he made into the box.

The diminutive Samukelile, who was not just offered the number 10 jersey for nothing, was unlucky not to register his name on the scoreboard, as he certainly proved he was an up-and-coming player to watch out for in the future.

Meanwhile, the Zenzeleni U13 girls have successfully defended their championship title in the same league, scoring one goal more than their Iphutheng counterparts to cling to their title.
Ithute girls clinched the third spot in the league after they relegated Ekukhanyisweni to the fourth spot with a solitary goal. Iphutheng clinched third spot in the boys section after a 1–0 win over Pholosho.
The eight teams in the finals, and third and fourth play-offs in the boys’ and girls’ sections, all received medals and a bag packed with various soccer equipment, such as balls and other items used during training sessions.
