Miss Alexandra sets out to champion youth empowerment in Alex

After taking the reins as Miss Alexandra 2025, Vanessa Mudau has set ambitious plans to uplift young people in Alexandra.

After being crowned as Miss Alexandra 2025 on August 30, the new Alexandra queen, Vanessa Mudau, has revealed her intentions to champion youth empowerment in Alexandra.

She said her new path, as Miss Alexandra, does not only set her up for personal growth; it gives her the opportunity to use her platform to touch lives in meaningful ways. “One of my greatest priorities is to advocate for single parent households. I know first-hand the struggles that come with it, but I also know the incredible love and resilience that exists in those homes.”

She intends to create initiatives that empower children from single parent households to help them believe in themselves and understand that their circumstances should never limit their dreams. “I’ve seen so many children in Alexandra doubt themselves. Too often our youth feel overlooked.

“They are also sold on the misconception that success is only meant for those outside Alexandra. I want to break that mindset, by working on mentorship programmes, confidence-building workshops, and awareness campaigns that remind young people that they have greatness within themselves.”

Beyond that, she intends to cast a spotlight on the significance of community upliftment initiatives. “Whether it is cleaning our environment, supporting young mothers, or creating safe spaces for youth. This will build a stronger and a more united Alexandra.”

Her ambitious goals, and clear vision for Alexandra’s youth, underscores her understanding of the responsibilities that come with her title.

According to Mr and Miss Alexandra’s director Nomsa Motha, the organisation aims to build strong and purposeful leaders who champion social change. She further explained that models are expected to implement their mission statement, and to play an active role in community initiatives that empower young people – something Mudau intends to do. “We believe that individuals who hold such titles should remain socially active, engage with the community, participate in interviews, and take part in initiatives that reflect their commitment to social impact and leadership.

“We are hopeful that our current Miss Alexandra will grow as a young leader, who embodies the values we uphold: Respect, responsibility, and leading by example.”
