Fighters happy after 20–0 victory against Silver Stars

Happy Fighters’ celebrations lost rigour as goals kept pouring in during their match against Silver Stars.

Happy Fighters FC left the field ecstatic after securing a 20–0 win over Silver Stars FC at Altrec Sports Centre on Saturday.

Although they scored over 10 goals in quick succession in the first half, their victory was not handed over to them on a silver platter. They fought hard to keep the ball in their opponents’ half and maintain pressure.

The spectators’ loud sighs over missed chances showed that expectations for more goals were high, especially from the Happy Fighters’ side. After halftime, Happy Fighters looked determined to score over the 11 goals they had already netted in the first half. They did, scoring so many goals that their celebrations lost rigour and became routine.

Happy Fighters’ coach Kamogelo ‘Zizwo’ Sefolo said they had expected to score around 30 goals, building on their previous tally of 27 goals in three games. “We were chasing goal difference, and we wanted to make sure that we don’t undermine any team, that we go all out in every match.”

He said he was impressed with the team’s performance, and they plan to keep it up.

Despite the heavy defeat, some Silver Stars players held their ground. Neo Ndumela, small in stature but a constant stumbling block at the goalpost, was one of the players who stood out for his grit.

Silver Stars coach Johannes ‘Lolo’ Modiba attributed Fighters’ dominance mainly to their physical strength, noting the height and weight advantage of their players compared to his squad.

He said that he had fielded U13 players to avoid a walkover, as had happened in previous games. Despite the scoreline, Modiba also praised his young team for keeping their heads in the game. “My U13 boys showed resilience against older and stronger players. Without the size difference, they would have had a much greater fighting chance.”
