City Power invites Johannesburg’s non-fee-paying high schools to enter 2026 EEDSM competition
Learners urged to ‘Power the future’, with innovative projects on energy efficiency and renewable energy.
City Power is calling on all Johannesburg, public, non-fee-paying high schools to take part in the Energy Efficiency and Demand Side Management (EEDSM) Schools Competition 2026, and showcase their creativity and innovation in energy-related projects.
The competition, themed: Do you have what it takes to power the future?, is open exclusively to Johannesburg, public, non-fee-paying high schools. Children of City Power or City of Johannesburg employees are not eligible to enter.

Participants can compete in three categories:
• Artistic posters – Creatively illustrate the themes of energy efficiency and/or renewable energy.
• Short videos – Produce a 15-minute film on the competition themes.
• Creative models – Build recycled-material models that demonstrate energy efficiency, renewable energy, or both.
Prizes include school awards of R35 000 for first place, R25 000 for second, and R10 000 for third.
The top two technology-innovative learners will each receive a laptop. Winning learners will also have the opportunity to become City Power ambassadors, and contribute to their communities.

Entries must be submitted through each school’s representative. Schools can apply online via the official form at https://form.jotform.com/253071055807050 or through the City Power website.
The closing date for entries is April 30.
