Government declares date for local elections
The president made the announcement during the extended presidential co-ordinating council meeting in Boksburg.
President Cyril Ramaphosa has proclaimed that South Africa’s next local government elections will be held on November 4.
The announcement was made while addressing the extended presidential co-ordinating council meeting at the Birchwood Hotel and OR Tambo Conference Centre in Boksburg on April 30.

This date aligns with the constitutional requirement that the elections be held within a 90-day window following the end of the current municipal councils’ term on November 2.
The five-year term of councillors elected on November 1, 2021, concludes at that point, placing the polls between early November 2026 and late January 2027.
