Sassa grant payment dates for May 2026 confirmed
Beneficiaries are urged to note the staggered payment schedule to avoid unnecessary trips to pay points and long queues.
The South African Social Security Agency (Sassa) has officially announced the social grant payment dates for May 2026. As is standard practice, payments will be staggered over three days to ensure the smooth and safe distribution of grants to millions of South Africans while minimising congestion at retailers, banks and cash pay points.

Older persons will receive their grants on May 5 2026. Disability grant recipients are scheduled to be paid on May 6 2026, while the child support grant, foster child grant, and other children’s grants will be paid on May 7 2026. Any beneficiaries whose grants are still under review are expected to receive payment on May 8 2026.
Sassa has reminded all recipients that the public holiday for Workers’ Day on May 1 will have no impact on this month’s payment schedule. The agency continues to encourage grant holders to collect their money on the designated dates for their specific grant type rather than arriving earlier, which can lead to avoidable delays and frustration at outlets.

Beneficiaries should always have their Sassa cards and valid identification documents ready when collecting payments. It is also advisable to check account balances discreetly and to report any suspicious activity or card problems immediately. For the latest updates and any changes to the schedule, community members are advised to visit their local Sassa office or check the official Sassa website and social media channels.
