House robbery and hijacking suspects nabbed in 26 minutes

Three men suspected of a violent house robbery in Edenvale were tracked down and arrested in Alexandra within just minutes, after allegedly committing the crime.

Three men suspected of a violent house robbery in Edenvale were tracked down and arrested in Alexandra just 26 minutes after the crime was reported.

The incident unfolded on June 2, when the suspects allegedly struck at the Dunvegan Secure Village in Edenvale around 16:00.

According to private security company Community Active Protection (CAP), the men entered the secure complex, carried out the robbery, and left one victim with injuries before fleeing the scene in a red Volkswagen Polo.

Acting on timely information about the house robbery within the Edenvale policing precinct, CAP launched an immediate pursuit, together with the members of the South African Police Service’s Johannesburg Flying Squad.

The suspects were quickly identified and traced to Alexandra, where their vehicle was intercepted at the intersection of London Road and Bushy More Street near Alex Mall.

“Police found three occupants inside the vehicle. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of housebreaking implements,” police spokesperson Captain Tintswalo Sibeko said.

Further investigation revealed that the red Polo had been reported hijacked earlier within the Honeydew policing precinct.

“The three suspects were subsequently arrested for possession of stolen property, possession of housebreaking implements, and possession of a hijacked motor vehicle,” she noted.
