Three late goals save Alex United blushes

ALEXANDRA - Three quick goals in the dying minutes of the game saved Alex United from yet another humiliating home defeat, this time to a creative Krugersdorp side, Munsieville Stars.

Three quick goals in the dying minutes of the game saved Alex United from yet another humiliating home defeat, this time to a creative Krugersdorp side, Munsieville Stars.

Stars scored in each half of this ABC Motsepe League top of the table clash, and held on to their 2-0 lead up until the last 15 minutes of the game, in which substitutions by United coach Tracy Lee-Pepper played a major role in their 3-2 victory.

Pepper brought on the imposing figure of Mfanafuthi ‘Isidlakela’ Mboma which immediately changed the complexion of the game as United began to play with purpose.

It was the colourful right winger Collins Zimba who found the back of the next first for Hope City Giants before banging in a second. Mboma clinched the win with a powerful strike.

“It’s not over until it’s over,” said Mboma after the match.

“And indeed it’s not over until it’s over,” said Stars coach Tumelo Ndaba. “I suspect that my boys went to sleep in the dying minutes of the game thinking the job had already been done.”

Edward Chauke, Hope City Giants number one supporter said he struggled to eat and sleep when his favourite team is beaten. “Today’s win means I will have a peaceful sleep after many weeks of sleepless nights,” he said.

A delighted Pepper said her strategy and substitutions had worked this time around and brought the desired results.
