Chiefs have a mountain to climb in Casablanca
JOBURG - Kaizer Chiefs have a mountain to climb in Morocco against Raja Casablanca on 5 April for the Confederation of African Football (Caf) Champions League second leg clash.
Kaizer Chiefs have a mountain to climb in Morocco against Raja Casablanca on 5 April for their Confederation of African Football (Caf) Champions League second leg clash.
Chiefs were beaten 1-0 by the Moroccan side in Durban in the first leg of the competition two weeks ago, and now have to beat Casablanca by a two-goal margin to advance to the next and last round before the group stages of the competition.
Amakhosi said they were confident of overcoming the 1-0 defeat and have prepared well, although they are doing so on the back of an unexpected exit from the Nedbank Cup at the hands of lower division side, Black Leopards.
“We are doubly determined to bounce back against Raja,” said coach Stuart Baxter who believes his side have what it takes to progress to the next round of Africa’s foremost club championship.
“The team has worked hard in training and we are going to Morocco without any fear. We are well prepared for the challenge and shall give everything to give our supporters the result they crave,” he said.
Chiefs marketing director Jessica Motaung added, “The players go with the hopes and wishes of everyone associated with the mighty Amakhosi. South Africa is right behind them in their quest to do us all proud.”
The match kicks off on 5 April at 7pm (9pm South African time) at the Stade Mohammed V. The team returns soon after to prepare for their Absa Premiership encounter against AmaZulu in Polokwane on 9 April.
