Malandela Mighty Heroes were the big winners at the junior finals of the Maimane Alfred Phiri (Map) Games as their teams emerged winners in two different age divisions.

In the first game of the day, Malandela locked horns with Rangers FC in the U13 division. Rangers were given a footballing lesson as Malandela ran riot to put six past them. The final score of the game was 6-2 as Rangers had no answers to Vincent Ramofi’s boys, the coach of Malandela.

The second game of the day saw Black Poison taking on Alex Gunners. Black Poison mounted several attacks from the first minute, with Sanele Sibiya producing a contender for goal of the tournament in the seventh minute after unleashing a thunderous shot past the Gunner’s keeper Tokello Thamanga.

Just before the halftime break, Terrrence Moyo doubled Black Poison’s lead after some great work from the left side. Black Poison held on to their lead to win 2-1. They were crowned champions of the U15 division.

The third game of the finals saw Pamo United versus Malandela Mighty Heroes in the U17 division. Pamo started as the better of the two teams, and as a result United’s Ntaka George forced a fine save from Malandela goalkeeper Ntlantla Badumedi.

Malandela’s Tshepang Machete was the first to find the back of the net after a great counter attack, which caught Pamo flat-footed.

Machete then completed his brace after chipping the ball over the Pamo goalkeeper after another well-orchestrated counter attack.

It was in the 75th minute that Pamo scored a consolation goal from a set piece on the edge of the box with George Ntaka making no mistake as he curled it past Badumedi.

Pamo rued their missed chances as Malandela held on for victory to be crowned champions of the U17 division.

Ramofi, who also coaches the U17 side said, “ I am very happy that we are the champs and I thank the players for their effort as it took a lot of hard work for them to achieve this.”

Pamo coach Mxolisi Mngomezulu said, “We made a few errors and we got punished as we were poor at the back, and I guess Malandela wanted it more than we did.”
