Retirees huff and puff to share the spoils
A share of the spoils between Tsutsumani FC and Five Special FC in the Alex Masters Soccer League was the only fair result in this huff-and-puff session for the retired players.
Two teams made up of Alexandra’s retired soccer players who currently ply their trade in the 16-team Alex Master Soccer League (AMSL) huffed and puffed for a share of the spoils.
This was at the Tsutsumani FC and Five Special FC league game played at the Victoria Grounds in Lombardy East on February 4. The two sides played to a goalless stalemate as they took the snack break.
On resumption of the second half and after a pep talk from the coaches, Tsutsumani made its intentions very clear with its first touch of the ball from their right-winger who powered a shot towards the posts, but his effort was way off target.

Soon after that action, Tsutsumani was at it again in search of an opening goal but one of their forwards on the ball was fouled right inside the penalty box and the referee never hesitated in pointing to the spot.
The spot kick was taken, and the special keeper was up to the task as he punched it back but only for the ball to land right at the feet of the taker, who blasted it back and made no mistake with this rebound.

Tsutsumani then hung to the slender lead for a while and that lead was cancelled in the dying minutes of the game when its right-winger curled the ball from an acute angle that managed to find its way in past the posts to rattle the back of the net.
Both sides put up a frantic effort in search of a winning goal during the referee’s optional time but it was never to be and had to settle for a one-all draw to share the spoils of what was more of a huff-and-puff session for both sides of the retirees.

The league, which is comprised of retired players in Alexandra from both the LFA and professional ranks, plays every Saturday and Sunday on the same ground.
