In the opening half, Mighty Heroes player Omphile Mogotsi almost had a one–on–one chance with the goalkeeper, but conceded a foul when a cross ball directed to him bounced awkwardly and hit his hand. Moments later, he found himself chasing another loose ball that had slipped through LRC’s defence, but could not catch up fast enough to face the keeper. Still, Mighty Heroes kept pressing forward, with Katlego Mbokazi posting himself as a potential threat to LRC’s defenders.

About 22 minutes in, Mbokazi finally broke the deadlock. He capitalised on a corner, found space, and fired to give his Mighty Heroes a 1–0 lead. Soon after, Heroes’ Njabulo Zulu sliced through LRC’s defence and set up Mogotsi, but LRC’s goalkeeper, Kgopotso Nkgapele, saved his side from conceding yet another goal.

The second half began with uncertainty, as both teams struggled to maintain possession, but, in the 70th minute, LRC’s Aphiwe Mashibini seized his moment, beating Mighty Heroes’ keeper Asimbonge Kunene to give his team an equaliser.

The parity did not last. Mighty Heroes responded through Siyabulela Mdakane, who restored their lead with a clinical finish to make it 2–1. Still LRC players fought. Thabang Maduwe nearly equalised with a powerful strike, but Kunene pulled off a stunning save that left some spectators gasping.

Despite the 2–1 victory, Mighty Heroes coach Bongo Rangata was critical of his side’s performance, “They weren’t playing the usual game we know. They lacked tactical discipline. The plan was to maintain possession, composure, and play as a unit, but today they overthought things and underestimated the opponent.” He admitted the team had targeted at least six goals but left with only two.

On the other side, LRC coach Bandile Thindleni said they where faced with the tough challenge of having to deal with taller, and stronger, opponents. “We saw Mighty Heroes’ height, strength, and pace compared to our shorter players. Our plan was to rotate the ball quickly and frustrate them, but in the first half the boys were tense and played too individually. At half–time, I told them not to fear the opponent and to play as a team.”

While Mighty Heroes might have walked away with the maximum points, both sides left the pitch with valuable lessons about tactical discipline and playing as a team.
