WATCH: New artist releases EP

JEPPESTOWN – Fresh, new artist Lerato Sellane, aka ELO will release her latest EP, Elogram, which will be available on iTunes from 4 March.

The Soweto-born star first discovered her talent while performing in her church choir and swiftly moved on to back Afro-pop musician, Vusi Nova; and tour Africa with her mentor, soul and R&B singer, Nothende.

An EP, or extended play is a musical recording that has more than a single but less than a full album. ELO’s EP, Elogram, is a six-track offering that leads with the hauntingly utopic Be it, of which the lyrics reveal hopeful ambition and an unceasing desire to self-manifest as an artist.

“I feel like melodies find me, then life allows me to present them. My lyrics are inspired by how I would want people to feel once they know the words and/or I put my heart and emotions in words and someone will relate to it,” explained ELO.

Don’t let the cotton-candy pink hair fool you. She’s a hard-working, determined young woman and now the fruits of her labour can be appreciated by the public. Listeners can expect an instrumental beat with minimalistic arrangements that blend synthesized harmonies with soft strings and xylophone, creating an atmosphere that fluctuates between light and darkness.

The release of Elogram will be supported by an international tour which began in Swaziland, Maputo and Durban in February. After the Elogram EP launch this month, ELO will jet off to perform at South By South West (SxSW) 2016 in Austin, Texas, as part of the South African music showcase. This is only the beginning for the petite girl with the pink afro and big voice!

She encourages young musicians to ‘find purpose for all of it. Not meaning, but purpose. That helps to shut out the negatives that will come your way. And always have a good bowl of popcorn from the cinema after a good or a bad day!’

Elogram will be available on iTunes from 4 March.
