Olive tree dabbles in healing

ALEXANDRA – Broken souls get solace from Olive Tree's healing circles.

Alex’s premier theatre, Olive Tree, is going beyond entertaining its audience to channeling their negative energy into productive outcomes.

This through a programme of healing circles which are used in some countries as catalysts to bringing self-awareness, confidence and contentment to the self. “The healing helps to unify society holistically through mediumship theatre activities that include talks, yoga and dramatic music productions that elicit conversations between an audience member and a relative who could have crossed over into after-life,” Nonhlanhla Tshabalala of the theatre said.

She said that as beings of the spirit, the platform looks deeply into daily challenges beyond just the physical realm which inhibit our functionality and performing up to our potential. “It entices self-reflection, self-discovery, heals our traumas, insecurities and, converts and redirects negative energy to productive outcomes in a space supported by like-minded others,” she said.

She added that sceptics are also welcome, “It will assist them to also understand broad occurrences in the society which are beyond just the physical. “People in general, including the sceptics, are hurting inside and struggling with the gloom and doom of life. Without an outlet, they channel their negative energy to among others crime which can be traced to broken families and poverty.”

Tshabalala said that we all need space to vent through this dance and conversation process to bring back joy, beauty and positive feelings in life.

The initiative launched in January will be conducted bi-monthly in the evenings at the 100-seater facility on 2nd Street, Marlboro which extends from 14th Avenue, Alex. “It will add to making the theatre’s services a wholesome contribution to social cohesion together with other annual flagship programmes of film screening for the young including preschoolers, the gigantic women’s theatre festival that runs 24 October to 3 November, the monthly film screenings and, varied live music with the theme – Under Olive Tree.”

Participants will be requested to contribute R50 for food and drinks.
