Dominican Convent helping community one task at a time

Dominican Convent School was a hive of activity on Mandela Day.

Staff and pupils from the high school took to the streets of Belgravia with bin bags and enthusiasm to pick up litter.

The pre-school collected bags of clothing which were donated, along with tinned food collected by the senior primary school, to a school in Tembisa.

Tinned food was also donated to Wings of Hope Pre-School.

The Foundation Phase pupils went to Cotlands in Turffontein.

The pupils had brought good, secondhand clothes from home and collected 200 cans of food. On arrival at Cotlands they we met by people working as volunteers.

The pupils saw babies who are orphans and learners from the crèche.

They were taken on a tour of the facilities and loved the toy library, fantasy and art room.

“We thank our families for their generous donations of clothes and cans of food and our pupils for their time and effort in making all the above possible during our Mandela Day 67 minutes. Without the help and generosity, the day would not have been possible. Hopefully our small contribution will make a big difference in the lives of many,” said Ms Renata de Kock Lucas, marketing and communications manager at Dominican Convent.
