Police arrest robbery suspects

Three suspects aged 24, 30 and 35 have been arrested for business robbery in Yeoville.

The incident occurred at the corner of Regent and Kenmere Street on August 5.

“The suspects went to a shop in Yeoville and held the staff at gun point. They then demanded money and took cigarettes and airtime from the shop,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, from the Yeoville SAPS.

The men drove off in a red Nissan Almera. The victim managed to take down the registration number of the car and called the police. The officers followed the lead and traced the residential address of the owner of the vehicle. Police managed to apprehend the getaway driver of the vehicle in the evening.

“Officers found the stolen items in his possession,” said Constable Malatji. The suspect led the officers to his accomplices in Yeoville, where police officers also recovered two unlicensed firearms. The suspects are expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
