She was speaking during the meeting with the women from various law enforcement agencies, including those from the Correctional Services and other departments, on Thursday, August 1.
“The purpose of the meeting was to encourage women to continually empower themselves and to ensure that they come out of their shells when experiencing abuse. You as women must rise to the existing challenges and fully utilise opportunities at your disposal for the amelioration of your lives, your families and communities. Let your aim be to build, encourage, motivate and support one another,” she said.
EMPD’s spokesperson, Chief Superintended Wilfred Kgasago said that there are different professionals who were advising women about different topics.
Ms Helen Koko, from Legal Aid, gave advice on issues concerning women, including domestic violence.
“Ms Louise Choeu, an occupational health care nurse, said it is important for women to undergo regular screening and for them to take responsibility for their own psychological and social well-being. Employee Assistance Practitioner, Ms Nonkululeko Tyilana, talked about the programmes employers offer.
