Suspect shot dead

Police have shot and killed one of two hijackers in Soweto.

The hijacking took place in Bez valley, when the owner of a Golf GTI was hijacked and shot. The driver of the Golf was rushed to hospital.

Members of the Soweto Flying Squad saw the vehicle in Dube, Soweto, and gave chase. According to Captain Selaelo Mzolo, from the Jeppe SAPS, a shootout ensued in which one of the hijackers was fatally wounded while the other was arrested. Two vehicles were recovered.

Capt Mzolo said another murder took place the following day.

In a separate incident, two men were shot in Commissioner Street, Fairview.

Capt Mzolo said one of the men was fatally wounded and the other was rushed to hospital.

“The motive for the attack is unknown and the police are investigating,” said Cap Mzolo.

There was also an attempted murder at the corner of Siemert and Beit streets in Doornfontein, on Tuesday last week.

A woman and her boyfriend were approached by two men who demanded their cell phones.

The woman fled to alert the security guard. One of the men then shot the woman’s boyfriend, who was also taken to hospital.
