Man gets 65-year sentence

The South Gauteng High Court has sentenced a man to an effective 65 years in prison for a series of crimes.

The suspect was convicted on six charges on September 10.

“The suspect was sentenced to 27 years for murder, eight years for attempted murder, four years for possession of an unlicensed firearm, one year for the unlawful possession of ammunition, four years for the unlawful possession of a firearm, eight years for the theft of a motor vehicle, eight years for attempted murder and 15 years for car-hijacking,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS. The Yeoville SAPS station commander, Colonel Louise Motaung and the detective branch commander Lieutenant Colonel Moses Raphadu, expressed their appreciation for the work of Detective Warrant Officer Samuel Mashego in ensuring the suspect was linked to a series of crimes.
