Man arrested for boy’s murder

A man was handed over to the police by his family after a boy he had allegedly assaulted with a hammer died in hospital.

Warrant Officer Richard Munyai, Jeppe SAPS communications officer, said police officers received a call on September 20 about a boy (16) who had been assaulted in Jeppestown.

“On their arrival, officers found that the boy had been taken to the Charlotte Maxeke Hospital. It was alleged that the boy was sleeping when the suspect hit him with the hammer,” said W/O Munyai.

The boy died in hospital.

“When they heard about the boy’s death, the family of the suspect caught him and brought him to the police station. He was arrested and charged with murder,” said W/O Munyai.

The man (48) appeared in the Johannesburg Regional Court last week and the case was postponed for further investigation.
