Toastmasters talk about African pride

Proudly African was the theme of the Modderfontein Toastmasters Breakfast Club meeting on September 28.

Every speaker spoke about how proud they are to be African and part of such an amazing heritage.

Through the Toastmasters programme, one learns how to think on their feet and to listen, all important attributes when developing communication and leadership skills.

Through the impromptu speaking session, randomly selected members of the audience practice these skills.

With the theme, three speakers spoke about important parts of our heritage, Ubuntu (human kindness), Toyi-Toyi (African celebratory dance) and Laduma (meaning that which thunders).

All three spoke passionately about the topics. The winner was Themba Vilakazi, who spoke about Ubuntu.

The Toastmasters programme allows participants to find those hidden and sometimes forgotten skills we all possess and develop them to their fullest potential.

As a Toastmaster, one is able to set goals participants are provided with the tools for reaching goals and dreams.

The next meeting will be held on October 19 at 8am for 8.30am at the Modderfontein Sports Club.
