Murder investigators await DNA results

The case against a man arrested for the murder of a woman at a local restaurant has been postponed.

The EXPRESS previously reported that a waitress, Ms Natalie Dube, was found dead at the Rusty Lady Deli Bistro in Queen Street, Kensington, on July 9.

Her throat was slit and her feet and hands were tied with electrical cables according to Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer.

Ms Dube (25), a Malvern resident, went to work the day before and one of the managers asked her to remain behind after work to do stock taking because she was late. She did so. The next morning employees went to work and Ms Dube did not arrive.

Later that day another waitress found Ms Dube’s body lying in pool of blood in a store room.

The Cleveland SAPS responded and information received led them to a flat in Kensington.

Police officers found blood at the premises but the suspect was not there.

Police officers followed up on further information and arrested a man at a hotel in Edenvale the same day.

The man appeared in the Johannesburg High Court on September 26.

The case was postponed to November 26 for further forensic investigations.

Const Mashakane said the investigating officer is waiting for the results of DNA samples collected from the scene of the crime.

The man remains in police custody.
