Bedfordview SAPS spokesperson Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabathi said the owner had parked his motorcycle at a shopping mall in Bedfordview at about 10am. When returning to his motorcycle later that evening, the man found on-duty security guards next to his motorcycle.
The motorcyclist showed them proof that the motorcycle belonged to him after a request from the security guards. The guards informed him that they had caught a man trying to steal his motorcycle.
On inspection of the motorcycle, the owner found that the ignition had been tampered with and there was something inside the ignition.
The police were called and the suspect was handed over. He is expected to appear in the Edenvale Magistrate’s Court soon.
