Circle construction haulted

Plans for the traffic circle were approved following the death of former South African teenager, Skye Wilsnagh (17) on Laurie Road on August 21.

Construction of a traffic calming circle at the intersection of Aitken and Laurie roads has come to a standstill.

Plans for the traffic circle were approved following the death of former South African teenager, Skye Wilsnagh (17) on Laurie Road on August 21.

Skye was on holiday with her twin sister when the accident occurred.

According to ward 18 councillor, Clr Heather Hart, during the first phase of construction, workers discovered a main pipeline for a fire hydrant.

“Before the construction can be completed, the fire hydrant line will have to be moved,” said Clr Hart.

It is hoped that once completed, the traffic circle will slow down road users on Laurie Road.

Before the delay, construction was expected to be completed by the start of 2014.

No new date for the completion of the circle has been given.
