A group of 80 Sacred Heart College matriculants reveled in achieving 141 distinctions in the recent matric examinations.
Dylan Barry, who obtained nine distinctions, was also placed within the top five percent of pupils in six subjects.
Claire Lowry with nine distinctions, and Laura Richardson with eight distinctions, achieved places in the top five percent of pupils in five subjects.
Dylan and Laura are in the top one percent of the entire country for history, maths paper 3, English and Afrikaans.
Claire Lowry is more than a little excited to embark on a new adventure at UCT, where she will be studying a BsC.
Four out of 10 pupils who wrote physical and life science also wrote visual or dramatic arts, giving them a rounded education.
90 percent of Sacred Heart’s pupils take mathematics, compared to 68 percent in Independent Examinations Board (IEB) schools and they still managed to outperform the IEB mathematics average by 4,3 percent.
“The 2013 results are outstanding, which is the outcome of the hard work, commitment and passion of the pupils and the teachers,” said Ms Heather Blanckensee, the principal of the high school.
“It is particularly heartening that the top achievers are well-rounded youngsters, who have excelled in sports, culture, academics and leadership. They certainly live up to Madiba’s words of using education as the most powerful weapon for change. We look forward to them making a contribution to our country. Congratulations to the class of 2013,” she added.
100 percent of the class of 2013 achieved results that will allow them to study at a higher education level.
