Two arrests were made by the Edenvale SAPS during a clampdown operation at several secondhand goods dealers in Edenvale.
Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts, said police officers had received information that a number of goods dealers were not complying with the Secondhand Goods Act.
“Two businesses were issued with hefty fines and two arrests were made. Those arrested were charged with being in possession of suspected stolen property,” said Lt Col Roberts.
The operation took place on Wednesday and the two men appeared in the Germiston Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
Under the Secondhand Goods Act, all businesses dealing in secondhand property must keep detailed records of all sales and intakes.
“A number of stores in Edenvale are not running their businesses according to the Act. We plan to clampdown on all businesses not complying with the law,” said Lt Col Roberts.
