A 27-year-old man has been arrested for the stabbing of a four-year-old girl in Yeoville.
The incident occurred at the corner of Kenmere and Yeo Streets.
“It is alleged that the child was walking with her mother along the street when they came across a man, who randomly grabbed the child by the throat. He stabbed the child at the back of the ear with a knife,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS.
The mother screamed for help and members of the community alerted the police. The police responded quickly, which resulted in the arrest of the suspect.
“Two knives were confiscated from the suspect and the child was rushed to hospital. It is not yet known why the suspect attacked the child,” said Const Malatji.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon, facing charges of attempted murder and the possession of a dangerous weapon.
The child is in a stable condition.
