Two suspects were arrested, one of them wounded, after a shooting at the Bradford Estate in Whittackers Road in Bedfordview on February 17.
According to the Bedfordview SAPS communication officer, Sergeant Mduduzi Nhlabati, “The shootout occurred when one of residents was woken up by four men in his home. One of the suspects had a firearm pointed at the victim. The resident reached for his own firearm and fired at the suspects, wounding two. The suspects fled, but one suspect was found on the premises with bullet wounds to both of his legs. Another suspect was later arrested.”
A Bradford resident, who did not want his name published, raised questions regarding the complex’s security and their inadequacy in handling criminal situations following the shooting.
“I am a tenant of a unit not far from where the shooting took place. The robbers gained entry and exit from our garden and fired their shots just outside my bedroom window. I was one of the first residents to venture out,” said the resident.
According to the resident, CCTV footage revealed that one of the men had sustained severe gunshot wounds to his legs and could not escape. The man crawled into a bush where he tried to hide. The suspect was later found and arrested. He was transported under police escort to a nearby hospital.
The police are investigating.
