Councillor hopes submissions will be captured
Clr Alison van der Molen is hoping her latest Integrated Development Plan (IDP) submissions will be captured by council.
She listed additional requests to a submission sent to council every year since 2011.
She raised concern over a number of requests that were apparently not attended to and is hoping positive changes take place in the ward over the next year.
Among her requests are a city safety strategy roll-out in parts of Cyrildene and Malvern, and a community centre and informal traders’ market for Malvern.
She requested fencing around parts of Fotheringham Park, in Malvern, as well as lighting in the park to stop crime incidents in that area.
These are interventions that several Malvern residents have been calling for, for years.
Clr Van der Molen said the Bezuidenhout Farmstead in Bezuidenhout Park needs to be preserved as it is a heritage site that is under threat.
The EXPRESS previously published articles about the vandalism taking place in Bezuidenhout Park, which includes the family cemetery.
In addition, Clr Van der Molen wants the history and historical buildings in Kensington and Malvern preserved.
She suggested an investigation into the possibility of declaring the area a historical precinct.
Her submission included areas in her ward that she believes are lacking service and general maintenance.
She said that Queen Street, in Kensington, needs to be tarred and the pavement also needs attention.
She also requested action with regard to the illegal taxi ranks in and around Ernest Oppenheimer Avenue in Bruma.
She believes a housing audit needs to be conducted at Max Goodman Terrace in Bez Valley and regular maintenance in this facility and the De Wetshof Retirement Village is needed.
She also requested storm water cleaning, more rubbish bins, traffic calming measures, street light upgrades and street sweeping in certain areas.
