JRA to repair damaged roads

The JRA recently announced that an estimated R23-million is needed to repair potholes and storm water drains and R37-million is needed to repair and rehabilitate bridges and culverts.

The Johannesburg Roads Agency (JRA) said it is working seven days a week to repair potholes and clear, unblock and perform minor repairs on storm water drains.

It is also trying to ensure traffic signals across the city are working.

The JRA recently announced that an estimated R23-million is needed to repair potholes and storm water drains and R37-million is needed to repair and rehabilitate bridges and culverts.

“This is due to the higher than average rainfall patterns across the city damaging road surfaces, bridges, culverts and gabions. The R60-million funds allocated for flood damage will include on-going maintenance, upgrading and replacement of infrastructure with the emphasis on the communities’ immediate needs,” said the JRA’s managing director, Mr Skhumbuzo Macozoma.

As a result of the rains, the JRA has 12 703 potholes to repair and about 37 545 patchings to do. According to Ms Bertha Peters-Scheepers from the JRA, about 887 storm water drains also need clearing, unblocking and minor repairs.

Residents can report all road and storm water related problems to 0860 562 874, hotline@jra.org.za or @MyJra on Twitter.
