A would-be taxi driver was arrested for having an unlicensed firearm.
The suspect was arrested at the corner of Cavendish Street and Louis Botha Avenue.
“Members of the Alexandra Taxi Association (ATA) noticed a minibus travelling in Yeoville and stopped it, as it was travelling on the wrong route. The driver of the minibus pulled out a firearm and threatened members of the taxi association,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS.
The taxi association members managed to overpower the man and the police were called to the scene.
“The serial number of the firearm had been filed off. The suspect was arrested and detained at the Yeoville Police Station. We thank the members of the ATA for the good work they did. The suspect is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon,” said Const Malatji.
