A man was arrested for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The incident occurred at the corner of Becker and Kenmere streets in Yeoville.

“The police received information about a man who was in possession of a firearm. Officers proceeded to the location and found a man who fitted the description of the suspect. When he was searched, a firearm was found with the serial number filed off,” said Constable Thabo Malatji, of the Yeoville SAPS.

According to Const Malatji, the suspect could not produce a license to possess a firearm.

“He was arrested and detained at the Yeoville SAPS and is expected to appear in the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court soon on charges of the possession of a firearm and ammunition,” said Const Malatji.
