Police officers have made a breakthrough in several cases of armed robbery.
On Friday night last week, members of the Johannesburg Flying Squad arrested two men in Edenvale on suspicion that they were involved several robberies.
The men were found in possession of stolen property.
It is believed the men committed several armed robberies in Edenvale and Bedfordview by following residents from banking institutions.
Acting spokesperson for the Edenvale SAPS, Lieutenant Colonel Robbie Roberts said once the men were detained at the Edenvale Police Station, a complete search of the suspects was conducted.
“One of the men attempted to conceal a car key in a bodily orifice,” he said.
Follow-up investigations revealed that the key belonged to a car parked at the Greenstone Shopping Centre.
The men then led police officers to a second vehicle parked at OR Tambo International Airport and a third vehicle parked at Arwyp Hospital in Kempton Park.
In the past 12 months, there has been an increase in armed robberies in Edenvale where residents were accosted at their homes by criminals who followed them from shopping centres and OR Tambo International Airport.
“If you suspect you are being followed, contact the SAPS sector vehicles immediately. Alternatively, call your security provider. Never drive home. Try as far as possible to drive to the nearest police station,” said Lt Col Roberts.

Edenvale residents living or working in Greenstone, Eastleigh, Illiondale, De Klerk’s Hof and the part of the Avenues from Hendrik Potgieter Street to Aitken Road fall under Sector 2.
