Four-way test teaches responsibility

Essays based on the International Rotary Four-Way Test taught youngsters about a life without gossiping and doing harm to others.

The Rotary Club of Johannesburg East recently met with the Interact Clubs of Assumption Convent School and Queens High School to discuss their past school community projects and plans to do a combined local community project.

The four winners of an essay writing competition were also announced. The winners were Janice Liu from Queens High School, Tsion Girma from Assumption Convent School, Caylen Soundiades from Assumption Convent School and Daniella Goncalves from Assumption Convent School.

The International Rotary Four-Way Test asked the following questions to pupils, “Is it the truth? Is it fair to all concerned? Will it build goodwill and better friendships? Will it be beneficial to all concerned?”

Some of the comments made after the essays written included that these four questions gave one the opportunity to take a step back and assess the situation as a whole, as well as considering the four-way test before doing something people will regret.
