Child drowns in swimming pool

A mother is in mourning following the death of her son (3) last week.

Speaking about the incident that took place on Wednesday in Rollo Street, Cyrildene, Constable Mpho Mashakane, the Cleveland SAPS communications officer, said a woman was watching television at about 1pm when she realised her child was missing.

“She went outside to look for him and saw the child lying at the deep end of the swimming pool. She screamed for help and took the child out of the pool,” said Const Mashakane.

Neighbours called an ambulance and the police. Paramedics arrived and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

Ms Nana Radebe, from the Johannesburg Emergency Management Services, said the child was certified dead.

According to Const Mashakane, the woman and child, from Angola, had arrived in South Africa about a week prior the incident.
