Open day at home

The Colonel Rowland Home for the Deaf and Blind held its first ever open day on Saturday, May 17.
The open day was held at the organisation’s premises in Pine Road, Bedfordview.
The aim of the day was for the organisation to open its doors to the Bedfordview community to allow residents a chance to interact with residents at the home.
“A tremendous amount of effort was put into organising this day. Advertising, handing out flyers, organising trestle tables and chairs from the St Vincent School for the Deaf and marquees from the army barracks in Kensington were organised,” said Ms Lynette van Velze, who is part of the organisers.

“The home thanks all those who popped in and spent some time with the residents. Thank you for the most generous donations received towards the renovation of the home. The first phase can commence, at last,” said Ms van Velze.
The home plans on having a grand bazaar in October. Should anyone wish to make a donation, the request is for funds to help facilitate the renovations of the existing buildings.
Donation can be made to the Max Ordam Deaf Association, Nedbank Bedfordview, branch code 192005, account number 1920 084 568 with the reference being renovations and the person’s surname.
