Building plans go missing

If building plans for Edenvale properties have gone missing, it would mean home owners could renovate as they please without consequences.

Claims have been made that building plans for properties disappeared from the offices of Edenvale town planning.

Last week the NEWS received information that an Edenvale businessman approached the town planning offices following his acquisition of a new property in the CBD.

According to the manager for the Edenvale City Improvement District (ECID), Mrs Linda McKenzie, the businessman was told the plans to his new property had been lost.

“He was then told he would have to hire an architect to re-draw the plans for the property at his own cost,” said Mrs McKenzie.

Council would have no proof the plans submitted by residents differ from original ones.

The NEWS questioned the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality’s (EMM) brand and communications department regarding the situation.

An enquiry was sent in which the NEWS questioned when last an audit was conducted of the plans on record at the Edenvale offices.

It was also asked why residents should be liable for the costs incurred if the plans are lost.

The enquiry and questionnaire was sent on Tuesday, June 3 and comment was requested by Friday, June 6, at 9am.
